Pizza is one of the things I missed most after going vegan. I have always loved pizza and thought I had given it up for good. Lucky for me, Toronto was a great place to go vegan and not long after I transitioned, vegan pizza options started sprouting up all over the city.
These days there are so many good options, I can't remember them all. This list helps me keep track and I hope it will help you find the vegan pizza of your dreams, too.
Assuming the dough is vegan (it's not always), you can build your own vegan pizza almost anywhere by omitting the cheese on a veggie pizza. You don't need a list for that. This list primarily compiles pizza places that offer vegan cheese. In a couple instances, there are places that don't offer vegan cheese but I've included them anyway because their cheese-free pizzas are labeled vegan and are known to be good.
1. Apiecalypse Now!
Apiecalypse Now! takes the top spot for being the only entirely vegan pizza place in Toronto. Not only can you get a pizza topped with Daiya or their house-made cashew ricotta, you also have the option of topping it with vegan protein such as soy curls. Pizza is the main focus but there are lots of other great options on the menu including salad, poutine, and dessert. Oh, and vegan dipping sauces!
There's a small seating area if you're stopping in for a slice, but most people order takeout or delivery. In the summer months, I like to take my pizza to Christie Pits across the street and make a picnic on the grass.
- Completely vegan
- Available by the slice
- Delivery available
- Small seating area
2. Virtuous Pie
Virtuous Pie has recently become Toronto's second entirely vegan pizza joint. Hailing from Vancouver, they have opened up a bright sit-down restaurant on College, with takeout and delivery hopefully coming soon. The menu is full of gourmet pizza options as well as Italian small plates, including garlic knots!
- Completely vegan
- Gourmet menu
- Sit-down restaurant
- Licensed to serve alcohol
3. Away Kitchen

6. Pizzeria Libretto
Vegans have been ordering cheeseless pizza from Libretto for years but they have finally added dairy-free cheese to the menu. Instead of stocking Daiya like most pizza joints, they now make their own cultured soy cheese in-house. It's fantastic and not unlike buffalo mozzarella. The rumor is one of the chefs used to make the cheese for dairy-free employees at staff parties and finally decided to add it to the menu.
Libretto is primarily a sit-down restaurant and is great for large groups. They have four locations around the city and I often see them pop up in delivery apps like Uber Eats.
